Clinical Experience/Approach to Therapy

Anthony integrates many different approaches depending on each client’s specific requirements and facilitate all clients to develop clarity so that they may develop the skills and resources within themselves to deal with these challenges and overcome obstacles. Central to his clinical practice is the importance of the therapeutic relationship, thereby creating a safe and confidential space from which a client can explore the challenges experienced in life.

As a psychotherapist, Anthony is experienced in working with individuals and couples. As an integrative therapist, he draws on a number of approaches which can be tailored to suit each individual’s needs. He is experienced in working with many different issues including relationship issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexual abuse, family dynamic issues and has a particular interest in working with individuals who have experienced any form of emotional trauma.

As a psychosexual and relationship therapist, Anthony works with a broad range of sexual issues, concerns and problems including erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, vaginismus and dyspareunia (painful intercourse), difficulties and differences in sexual desire, inability to reach orgasm and intimacy issues. He also works with couples who are separating and individuals who have concerns around their use of pornography and sexual compulsivity.

Background

Anthony has a background as a secondary teacher, including substantial experience working within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health service, where he gained a great interest in psychology and psychotherapy.

Anthony completed a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology in Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. His integrative therapy training was completed with Turning Point Institute and Dublin City University, where he gained both a Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Integrative Clinical Psychotherapy, accredited by the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP). Anthony also completed a College of Sexual and Relationship (COSRT) postgraduate specialist professional qualification Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy with Tavistock Relationships in London.

Anthony is an Accredited EMDR Europe Practitioner and has completed Advanced Clinical Training in Attachment Focused EMDR. He is currently in the final stages of his EMDR Consultant training. An eternal student, Anthony is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), has completed Somatic Trauma Therapy training, and a Professional Certificate in Couples Counselling. He is currently completing the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy in Trinity College Dublin, as part of a Doctoral Level Qualification in Counselling Psychology with the British Psychological Society.

Memberships

Anthony is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP), the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP), the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), EMDR All-Ireland and EMDR UK. Since, 2021, he has been serving as a board member with both IAHIP and EMDR All-Ireland. He is also a registered member of COSRT (College of Sex and Relationship Therapy), member of the Society for DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and a graduate member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and British Psychological Society (BPS).
