Our multi-disciplinary team of compassionate mental health professionals include Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Cognitive Behaviour Therapists (CBT), EMDR practitioners, Occupational Therapists and Psychosexual Therapists. The team are highly trained, fully qualified and registered. They have extensive experience working with people with mental health challenges to achieve their goals.

Dr. Róisín Joyce

Dr. Róisín Joyce is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and co-founder of EBTC. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Oxford University and has more than two decades of experience in adult mental health. Róisín has training and extensive experience in a number of evidence-based psychological approaches including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and EMDR. Róisin understands the importance of providing a non-judgemental, compassionate space where people can explore their difficulties and find individual solutions that work for them. She believes in empowering clients to manage their mental health and places significant emphasis on the relationship each person has with themselves. Róisín’s compassionate and authentic approach enable her to build strong therapeutic relationships that facilitate the process of change for those she works with.

Early career and training

After completing a BA in Psychology at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Róisín went to the UK to gain experience in Clinical Psychology.  She worked as an Assistant Psychologist in a number of specialities including children and families, where she worked with children and adolescents at risk of school exclusion due to behavioural and emotional problems and in an older adult team, where she worked with people with cognitive and emotional difficulties.  She also worked for two years with people with traumatic brain injuries, first as a rehabilitation assistant in a brain injury rehabilitation unit and then as an Assistant Psychologist in the Royal Hospital for Neurodisability, London.

Róisín completed a three year doctoral training at the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology, Oxford University, where she specialised in adult mental health psychology. Since finishing her doctorate in 2005, she has completed a range of additional specialist trainings including Schema Therapy (a treatment approach for complex difficulties), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT),  Compassion-Focused Therapy and EMDR, all of which are evidence-based treatments for complex difficulties.

Experience as a Clinical Psychologist

Since completing her training, Róisín has worked as a Clinical Psychologist in adult mental health psychology settings.  For seven years, Róisín worked in a NHS multi-disciplinary community mental health team helping clients with severe, enduring and complex mental health problems.  In addition, she led specialist psychology services offering brief psychological interventions to people with mild/moderate mental health problems and led on the development of psychological services in oncology and palliative care settings. Since 2012, she has been working at EBTC, offering specialist psychological assessment and intervention to people with a range of psychological difficulties and distress. Róisín draws on her knowledge and experience to treat a range of problems such as anxiety, phobias, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adjustment disorders, social anxiety, health anxiety, low self-esteem, eating disorders, bi-polar disorder, trauma and borderline personality disorder. The variety and depth of Róisín’s training and experience mean she can adapt interventions to suit the individual needs of the person in therapy.

Specialist expertise

Róisín has extensive experience working with adults with a range of psychological difficulties that are having a negative impact on their ability to function in the way they would like. She specialises in working with people with recurrent psychological problems and enjoys working alongside people to help them achieve their goals and ambitions. Róisín is passionate about relapse prevention and believes in giving people the tools they need to manage their own mental health, now and in the future. 

Róisín believes in enhancing psychological understanding through supervision and teaching.  She is experienced in providing supervision and consultancy to other professionals and has been involved in a number of teaching and training programmes. She also shares her insights through podcasts, blogs and professional teaching.

Service development

Róisín is passionate about service development and is continually striving to improve how psychological services are delivered and accessed by those who need them.   While in the NHS, Róisín designed and facilitated a hugely successful group for people with bi-polar disorder, helping them to recognise and manage signs and symptoms of relapse.  Róisín also took the lead for implementing an intensive group therapy programme for people with emotion regulation difficulties across East Berkshire.  Since 2012, Róisín has been continually working to ensure that psychological services at EBTC are as compassionate, efficient and effective as possible.

Lisa Healy is a trauma-informed psychotherapist and certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, specializing in supporting individuals facing trauma, emotional distress, and the challenges of neurodiversity. Qualifications & Experience

Lisa holds an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy and an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis. She became an accredited psychotherapist with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP) in 2019 and is also certified in EMDR for trauma processing. Her ongoing commitment to professional development ensures she remains up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices in trauma care, neurodiversity, and mental health.

In addition to her clinical work, Lisa has significant experience in higher education. She lectured on the Clinical Behaviour Interventions module as part of the MSc/PhD in Applied Behaviour Analysis programme at the University of Galway from 2020 to 2023. In this role, Lisa was responsible for teaching interventions designed to support mental health, including strategies for individuals with neurodiverse diagnoses. One of the aspects Lisa particularly enjoyed about this role was the opportunity to plan engaging and informative course content. She took great pride in delivering the material in creative ways, encouraging students to integrate what they learned with their prior knowledge, and inspiring them to apply their learning both in their professional roles and personal lives.

With over ten years of experience working in therapeutic settings, Lisa has supported a diverse range of clients, including individuals seeking personal growth, those experiencing mental health challenges, and other professionals seeking guidance and mentorship in therapy or counselling.

Olive O'Grady

Senior Psychotherapist & Accredited EMDR Europe Practitioner

Olive O’Grady is a Senior Psychotherapist with a deep commitment to integrative, compassionate, and evidence-based care. She has over a decade of experience supporting individuals across the lifespan, with a special focus on perinatal mental health, trauma, and self-critical thinking. Olive draws from a wide range of therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each client, combining humanistic warmth with structured psychotherapeutic tools. Her work is grounded in the belief that healing happens through authentic connection, compassionate self-awareness, and gentle exploration of life’s challenges. 

Olive also brings specialist expertise in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), CBT-E for eating difficulties and EMDR for trauma.  Olive is currently completing a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist training.  She has a strong academic and clinical background—including many years spent in student mental health services, research, and supervision—Olive integrates scientific insight with a human-first approach. At Evidence-Based Therapy Centre, Olive provides one-to-one psychotherapy, perinatal support, and clinical supervision, offering a space of calm, safety, and curiosity for people navigating anxiety, trauma, identity issues, grief, or change.

Olive leads the centre’s Perinatal Therapy Service alongside specialist physiotherapist Sylvia Farrell. She works with individuals and couples during pregnancy, postnatally, and through reproductive challenges, providing a space for recovery after traumatic births, loss, and difficult pregnancies.

Anxiety, Depression, Self-Criticism, Shame & Compassion Fatigue
Olive has undertaken advanced training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), a powerful and evidence-based approach for people experiencing patterns of shame, self-criticism or emotional regulation difficulties. Her work supports the development of emotional resilience, soothing and self-compassion.

Trauma & Loss
Olive has significant experience working with individuals who have experienced early attachment trauma, bereavement, or complex grief. Her gentle, integrative approach allows clients to process painful memories and reconnect with safety, strength and meaning.  Olive has recently trained in EMDR for trauma related mental health issues.

Eating Difficulties
Olive has completed a specialist training in CBT-E at the University of Oxford, Olive supports individuals who are struggling with body image, restrictive eating, or disordered relationships with food. Her approach is sensitive, structured, and non-judgemental.

Olive holds a Master’s Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy from the University of Limerick and a Diploma in Counselling Supervision from IICP. She completed her BA in Humanities (Psychological Studies & Sociology) at NUI Galway in 2008, with early academic work focused on adolescent mental health and risky behaviours.

Her professional experience includes:

  • Over 10 years in Private Practice, supporting individuals, families, and parents with a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns.
  • Seven years at The Crescent in Salthill, and since 2019, at Evidence-Based Therapy Centre, Galway.
  • NUIG Student Counselling Service (2011–2018), working extensively with young adults navigating anxiety, low mood, identity, and adjustment issues.
  • Programme Manager for YOULEAD and PSYCHE (2018–2021), working on youth mental health research and intervention development with Professor Gary Donohoe and the School of Psychology at NUIG.

Brendan Clarke

Senior Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP-Accredited) & Accredited EMDR Europe Therapist

Brendan Clarke is a thoughtful and experienced therapist who works with adults experiencing a broad range of psychological difficulties, particularly anxiety and depression-related disorders. He brings a grounded, compassionate presence to his work, and integrates evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)MindfulnessNarrative Therapy, and EMDR to support clients in creating meaningful and lasting change. Brendan’s therapeutic style is both collaborative and reflective—he places great importance on honouring the lived experiences and values of the people he works with, while drawing on established clinical tools to help them move towards the life they want to live.

Brendan began his academic journey in Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, where he developed an early curiosity about the ways people take meaning from their experiences. After working in education, he completed a Masters in Foundations of Clinical Psychology at Bangor University in Wales.

His postgraduate research, under renowned psychologist Prof. Richard Bentall, explored how life-changing spiritual or voice-hearing experiences, often viewed through a pathologising lens can actually be integrated and even valued when understood in a broader psychological and personal context.

Following hands-on work in acquired brain injury services, Brendan went on to train formally in CBT, completing:

Her early career in leadership roles within the business sector sparked a deep curiosity about human behaviour, how we think, feel, and respond under pressure. This led to her transition into psychology and psychotherapy, where she now supports individuals in managing anxiety, depression, trauma, and workplace stress. Anne-Marie Daly is a senior clinical psychologist with over two decades of experience supporting adults through periods of emotional difficulty, life transition, and psychological distress. She brings a particular interest in working with people navigating complex life stages, occupational stress, and relational challenges. Whether clients are adjusting to change, managing inner conflict, or seeking to deepen their self-understanding, Anne-Marie supports them to reflect, heal, and grow.

Dr Emer Downey is a warm and compassionate Clinical Psychologist who brings a rich clinical and academic background in psychology to her work. Jessica began her academic journey with a BSc in Psychology from the University of Limerick, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Maastricht, where she developed a strong interest in brain-behaviour relationships. She then completed a PhD in Psychology at NUI Galway, funded by the Irish Research Council, where she explored links between the immune system, cognitive function, and mental health.

Following her doctoral research, Jessica gained valuable clinical experience working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic setting, supporting individuals with emotional, behavioural, and neurocognitive difficulties. She went on to complete her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College Dublin, where she specialised in Neuropsychology and Health Psychology.

Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, she has continued to work with individuals and families affected by Autism and long-term health conditions, as well as maintaining a strong interest in cognitive and neurological functioning.

Jessica has also presented her research at national and international conferences and continues to contribute to the field through academic publications and collaborations.

Jessica has a particular interest in the immune system’s influence on mental and cognitive health, especially in the context of Long Covid, trauma, and chronic illness. Background

Audrey Bourke is an experienced Psychotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. She  began her clinical career as a mental health counsellor in a residential addiction centre, providing individual and group therapy to clients experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties alongside problems of addiction. In this role, Audrey developed strong diagnostic and case formulation skills, while providing evidence-based interventions to meet the psychological needs of the individuals she worked with.

Over the years, Audrey has expanded her clinical skills as a psychotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist by working in private practice, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in hospitals, and providing crisis intervention services. These experiences have enhanced her ability to respond effectively to complex presentations, including co-morbid mental health and substance use concerns.

Emma is an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a strong academic foundation and extensive NHS clinical experience, spanning primary care, national specialist services and inpatient settings. Having recently relocated to Galway, Emma brings over a decade of experience working in mental health services. Emma’s academic journey began in New Zealand, where she earned both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology before obtaining a Masters in Developmental Sciences from Birkbeck, University of London and the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Interventions (CBT) from the University of Surrey. Emma’s professional development has continued through specialised training in eating disorders, and she has completed training in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) through King’s College London. Emma’s career has included working with a diverse range of individuals, from people living with eating disorders to individuals living with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and neurodiverse individuals.

Specialist Expertise

  • Eating Disorders: Emma’s previous role was CBT Therapist and lead of the early intervention (FREED) pathway within the outpatient eating disorders service at the Maudsley Hospital – where many of the eating disorder therapies were developed. In this role, Emma gained expertise in many NICE recommended therapies including CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders), MANTRA (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults), and specialist training and supervision in delivering FT/AN-EA (Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa in Emerging Adults). In this role Emma also provided clinical supervision and leadership within the large multidisciplinary team.
  • Neurodiversity: With a strong background in work with neurodiverse individuals in a variety of settings including at the National Adult Autism & ADHD Psychology Service at the Maudsley Hospital, Emma has significant experience in the identification of, and adaptations of, therapies for neurodiverse individuals. Laura Hackett is a Senior Occupational Therapist specialised in the area of adult mental health and perinatal mental health. With over eight years of experience in both public and private mental health services, Laura supports individuals in restoring functional independence, emotional wellbeing, and life satisfaction across their valued roles. She is a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) and CORU-registered Occupational Therapist, integrating a range of evidence-based approaches including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Sensory Integration, and Mindfulness-based interventions.

Laura adopts a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and client-centred approach, working holistically with clients to address barriers to participation in meaningful daily activities.
