Individual Psychological Therapy Assessment
Psychological therapy aims to understand, alleviate and prevent psychological distress and promote psychological well-being and personal development. At Evidence-Based Therapy Centre, we have a team of highly specialist Clinical Psychologists, CBT therapists, Psychotherapists and Occupational Therapists who have extensive experience working with a range of psychological difficulties. We provide a range of evidence-based psychological therapies both in-person and online including Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, EMDR and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy. We start by offering an assessment as this enables us to determine the most suitable psychological approach and recommend the most appropriate therapist given the presentation.

We always start by understand the problem
The first step is to develop a detailed understanding of the difficulties being experienced. This involves specifying what the difficulties are, making sense of why they have occurred and understanding what is maintaining them. This is usually achieved in the 1 hour assessment session but in complex cases, this can take longer and a second assessment may be recommended. Part of the assessment involves completing a number of questionnaires. These help to assess the severity of the difficulties and help when evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention.
Then we recommend the approach most likely to be effective
After the assessment session, the assessment team meet to consider what was discussed at the assessment appointment and develop a tailored treatment plan for the individual. This plan is based on the best available research and the goals and preferences of the individual. We then allocate to the therapist(s) who can most effectively implement the treatment plan.
Treatment sessions help the person achieve their goals
Clinical psychology treatment appointments last 50-60 minutes. Treatment focuses on teaching a range of skills, strategies and techniques to help understand and manage the presenting problems. To achieve the desired treatment goals, people in therapy use what was discussed in the session and practice the skills and strategies in between therapy sessions. Progress is closely monitored and discussed each week to ensure the therapy is helpful.
