October 23, 2025What is Neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity is the natural variation in how our brains work. People with neurodivergent conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) process information, emotions, and social cues differently. In relationships, this can create unique challenges but also opportunities for deeper understanding and growth.
Are you navigating relationship challenges related to neurodiversity?
In adult relationships where one or both partners are neurodivergent, common issues may include:
- Misunderstandings and conflict around parenting, finances, and household tasks.
- Recurring, unresolved arguments that leave both partners feeling stuck.
- Different interpretations of conversations, leading to feelings of being unheard.
- Challenges with intimacy due to difficulties reading each other’s needs and communicating desires.
- Overwhelm from daily tasks, leading to sensory burnout.
- Practical struggles with organization, tidiness, and planning ahead.
How can this group help?
This online skills-based, psychoeducational group is led by qualified sex and relationship therapists with experience supporting neurodiverse couples. Through guided sessions, you’ll gain insight into the effects of ASD and ADD on relationships, focusing on enhancing communication and empathy between partners. Key elements include:
- Understanding neurodiversity in relationships and how it impacts communication and intimacy.
- Tools for managing overwhelm and supporting each other’s emotional regulation.
- Mindfulness and meditation practices for improved connection.
- Practical advice on common challenges, including finances, parenting, and household responsibilities.
- Strategies for physical and sexual intimacy, including sensate focus exercises.
Each session includes time for small-group discussions, where couples can ask questions and share insights, learning from the experiences of others.
Is a diagnosis required?
No formal diagnosis is needed! If you or your partner identify with neurodiverse traits, that’s enough. We welcome self-identified individuals, as well as those with a formal diagnosis. This group is also beneficial for newly diagnosed adults seeking to understand how neurodiversity affects their relationships. Self-referrals and referrals from therapists or GPs are welcome.
How much does it cost?
Cost per couple €1100. This can be paid over two instalments of €550.
How do I book ?
The initial step for couples who are new to EBTC is to book a consultation with Afrah who will talk you through the group process and get an idea of your personalised goals and your relational needs. This will take approximately an hour and costs €150. Afrah will then decide with you if the group is a suitable next step and if not, an alternative treatment plan will be discussed.
If you are already in the service and have been referred internally, Afrah will offer you a free meet and greet session of approx. 15 mins to introduce herself and discuss the group process. Internal referrals can also opt for the full consult if they wish.
If you are interested in booking a place on this online course, please call us on (091) 727 777 or contact us here . If you wish to read more about the therapist running the course please read Afrah’s biography
